Emily Carson is the Current GYCA North American Focal point on HIV-AIDS. she is an Canadian national, who has lived in the United States, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and India. She has spent a considerable amount of time studying international Politics and culture and is now working that into the work she is doing with HIV. At 19, Emily has been working with HIV for 6 years, starting a developing high-school education program for her peers that led to a seat in the Board of Directors of The Alliance for Living in New London, Connecticut. She worked at the Alliance for living as an Intern as well as a Board Member representing the Youth Voice of HIV in the Community. She worked on developing healthy meal plans for people living with HIV. She also began working on writing Grant proposals. Emily's International Interests led her to spend 3 months living with Refugees in North India in 2006. After finishing High-school; Emily attended an American University called Global College which allowed her to study abroad. Spending a year between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Emily studied the Latin American AIDS epidemic. Working with grassroots organizations in San Jose, Costa Rica to implement meal programs. Because of that she applied to attend the International AIDS Conference 2008 in Mexico City, Mexico. Attending AIDS 2008, and the Youth Pre-Conference gave her the chance to meet a myriad of interesting people and organizations that she has build a relationship with since then. This also allowed her to become aware of the GYCA organization.
After Mexico, Emily went straight to Bangalore, India; diving head first into studying the South Asian AIDS epidemic. After a long process Emily decided to switch Universities and major in Media and Journalism. Emily is Currently is living in Toronto, Ontario; Canada and is attending University of Guelph-Humber. She is active in local AIDS organizations, LGBT and Political awareness in both the United States and Canada.
