About Me

Michael Mabwe is currently the National Focal Point in Global Youth Coalition on AIDS(GYCA) for Zimbabwe since 2010.

Michael has been involved in HIV and AIDS work at different levels dating back to high school days. He founded the Zimbabwe Inter-colleges HIV and AIDS Theatre Gala, the only platform that has been bringing Zimbabwean tertiary institutions together annually to explore HIV and AIDS issues using the arts since 2004.Worked with SHAPE Zimbabwe on the UNICEF sponsored HIV and AIDS program in the rural Mutoko District working with communities promoting alternative masculinities and conducting assertiveness training initiatives. He has been a voluntary coordinator of the BE True to yourself HIV and AIDS Campaigning targeting the arts and culture industry in Zimbabwe and has sourced sports equipment for youth organisations for them to use sports in the fight against AIDS.

An award recipient of the Distinguished Visitor of the Urban Morgan Institute of Human Rights at University of Cincinnati College of Law, USA, Michael chairs the National Association of NGOs National Youth Committee, was Deputy Chair Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Youth Committee, is Secretary General of Zimbabwe Youth Network and is a member of Youth Initiative for Democrarcy in Zimbabwe, Youth Forum, Youth Empowerment and Transformation, Youth Agenda, Young Voices Network, and volunteer with Baobabconnections as a country correspondent as well as Country Coordinator for the Network of African Youths for Development(NAYD) Zimbabwe Chapter. He is a member of Zimbabwe’s Parliamentary board called the Constitutional Parliamentary Committee(COPAC).
He has attended a number of workshops on different development issues at national and interantional level.
