About me
A graduate of University Malaya, she studied Information Technology and majored in management. She successfully completed a course on International Business in Emerging Markets, organized by the Asia-Europe Institute, UM in collaboration with the University of Bocconi, Italy. And, interned at an IT-based company in 2002.
Joanne’s greatest achievement to date is having represented Malaysia in Canada as Youth Trade Ambassador in May of last year, thanks to the smart partnership known as Rakan Muda Team Malaysia. She, of course went on to outdo herself by participating in the 10-year Youth Employment Network programme. Joanne was proud to be part of YES Mexico and shares her hopes of participating actively in the implementation of the Millenium Development Goals by engaging in UN campaigns. Locally, she has organized and participated in several Networking Social workshops throughout the year.
An active student in the 2nd Residential College, she was part of the organizing committee of the UM Invitational Tennis Championship, Malam Anugerah Menara Budi, Blood Donation Campaign, Safety Campaign and served in the Food and Health panel. Prior to that, she served as International Understanding Director for the Interact Club. During her term as IU Director, she organized an inter-school AIDS awareness programme and the National Day celebration at the school level which earned her the Bakti Gemilang awarded by SM Maxwell, Kuala Lumpur.
Joanne was in the pioneer team of the Catholic Youth Movement of SM Convent Sentul and was elected as the first President of the Catholic Youth Movement.
Joanne is also a certified fire-brigade cadet and earned the award for best results in Theory. Other awards include those for Best School Based Project from the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur and the 3 star, Bakti Gemilang by SMK Maxwell Kuala Lumpur.
A passion for literature, writing and journalism found her a job as a stringer with the Youth Quake, the weekly youth section of the New Straits Times. Her interest for public-speaking has seen her emceeing for numerous events, seminars and workshops. Joanne is also the pride of young people in Sentul having played a key role in their development though mentorship and tutoring. She has also found the time to do what she loves, motivational speaking.
Joanne loves reading and her favourite piece of reading material besides the Readers’ Digest is penned by Patricia Cornwell. She also has a passion for semi-classical dancing, singing, public speaking, ice-skating, bowling, playing handball with the young people in her neighbourhood, emceeing etc.
Her live revolves around music and her achievements in sound include those of the play Lift: Out of Order by Rep 16:21. She loves the outdoor and adventure and her to-do list includes bunjee-jumping, sky-diving, earning a pilot’s license, volunteering a season at Sea World to work with dolphins completing a basic course in medicine.
Joanne hopes to pursue a career in International Communications. Ten years from now, she sees herself hosting her own talk show.
