About me
My name is Molly O'Ray and I am 18 years old from Canada's capital. If I could express the way I try to live my life it would be through a famous quote by Gandhi, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." I truly do try to influence those around me to do the same as well as I have a strong desire for making a difference for a better future.
My passion for making a difference was sparked at a young age all thanks to my hero, David Suzuki, host of the Nature of Things and the leading Canadian environmentalist. I was very disturbed along with him and his concerns for climate change and his efforts to increase awareness of our impacts on the world. I decided early that I needed to affect people’s views and inspire change in people like David Suzuki did in me.
Which is why I went to study environmental sciences and international Development at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia so I could use my passion for the planet help others take an interest in protecting it.
I was a leader in my high school environment club, am currently involved in two environment clubs at my university, and am the environment rep for my campus residence where I organize weekly recycling.
I also volunteered last March at a village school and orphanage in the Dominican Republic and I also helped at a shelter for victims of the Haitian earthquake.
This past summer I participated in Eco mentors training with Earth Day Canada to develop my leadership skills, in order to raise awareness and encourage positive change in the way youth care for our environment.
I also attended an environmental conference in Ottawa with the amazing Jane Goodall put on by her foundation roots and shoots and Algonquin College.
I am very outgoing and have been involved in a wide range activities that have helped develop my independence, leadership, and enthusiasm. I was a gymnast for 10 years, a competitive cheerleader for four, president of my high school last year and have always been heavily involved in theater with leading roles in two of my high school plays.
I believe the fate of the world sits on the shoulders of todays youth and so as youth we should all do our part to make a difference and impact our beautiful planet in positive ways!
