About me
Growing up in St. John's, Newfoundland, I have always identified with the natural environment. Positioned directly on the atlantic ocean surrounded by various rock formations, untouched landscapes and undisturbed wildlife has formed a strong relationship and consideration for the environment. After embarking on a move to South Western Ontario, I was a part of a semester long program called CELP (Community Environmental Leadership Project) that provided emersion into the community and utilized an out-of-the-classroom teaching style. This approach provided leadership, outreach, volunteer and travel opportunities as a means to create an "active citizen". The lessons and experiences bestowed upon myself during this time stayed with me until University, where I chose to study a Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of Guelph. Throughout my undergrad I took a wide variety of courses such as Urban Geography, Environmental Governance, Political Ecology, Economics, Global Environmental Change, Management of Natural Resources and an Independent research study course. This variety of course work enabled a well-versed approach and understanding of the Environment and all things connected. Furthermore, my degree at Guelph allowed for an amazing volunteer opportunity in Marine Turtle and Coastal Conservation in Los Pargos, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Through this experience, I was directly engaged in the human impacts forced upon the beaches, ecosystems and species in this area.
