Voice of Human Rights (VHR) News Centre (further we call VHR) is the only alternative media focus on human rights issues and discourse of human rights in Indonesia. VHR was established on 16 June 1999 in middle of reformasi which delivers freedom of press. VHR aims to build basis community throughout Indonesia to be content provider of human rights education for rural community. Initial goal of VHR is to transform partial human rights perspective into comprehensive and fundamental perspective.
VHR grows up as an alternative media by expanding community radio network and reforms website concept and streams a more popular radio concept and human rights streaming into radio programme. One of VHR’s achievements is VHR has improved its website in June 2007. These new performance and concept of VHR will be a main tool to reach broader community.
VHR’s target is become a first media which concerns in education efforts and human rights enforcement in Indonesia. VHR also has spirit to be the most completed human rights data resource and also become news and human rights discourse centre by community radio’s network empowerment as permanent contributor. By this way, all level of society can be reach by VHR through website, radio streaming and network broadcasting with community radios.
Journalism of VHR
Journalism of VHR is professional journalism as run by professional mass media. The difference is VHR builds basis community as the main journalist. VHR facilitates journalistic trainings in stage to empower any level of communities as VHR journalist. In same time, the main editorial team of VHR continuously enhances its journalistic’s results as media pioneer on human rights.
The uniqueness of community based journalism of VHR is VHR involves in community empowerment in order to strengthen community to express their actual problem on social, politic, economy and culture. By this way, community involves directly into dialogue, debate and also to control public policy in local level and it is a progress step to enforce democracy and law in our country.
