About me
"When your focus is social change and not just financial change... why wouldn't you want to share [design] openly?" -Cameron Sinclair
My name is Joshua Lessard and I am an architectural designer at UJMN Architects + Designers(formerly associated with John Milner Architects, Milner + Carr Conservation, Voith & Mactavish Architects, and "VARENHORST"). I recently graduated from Drexel University with my professional degree in Architecture (winning both the Michael Pearson Thesis Prize and the ARCC King Medal).
I have been fortunate enough to work on the restoration and conservation of several amazing international historic landmarks, as well as the design and construction of private residences and disaster relief housing. I have worked on projects in the U.S., France, Turkey, and the Middle-East.
Though my research and design aesthetic reflect my interest in the integration of sustainable systems into contemporary architecture, I strongly believe in the importance of learning from historic and cultural precedents. Our past is a great resource for building the future. In addition, I believe in the power of collaboration amongst all people, in particular youth. It is our duty and fantastic opportunity to make a difference with our actions everyday!
I am an active member in several volunteer and charity organizations such as Architecture for Humanity, the Invisible Youth Network, the World Affairs Council, Best Buddies, the American Institute of Architecture Students, the Architectural Engineering Institute & DesignPhiladelphia. I served as Co-chair of Architecture for Humanity Philadelphia for two years, and formerly served as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Advisers for the Invisible Youth Network (in addition to sitting on the IYN Board of Directors).
Feel free to join me and many others helping and having a great time!
