Prakash BHATTARAI (Kathmandu, Nepal) - Age 28, MA in Population Studies, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. Prakash has a decade of experience in human rights, democracy and peace activism working in Nepal as a civil society leader, project manager, researcher, trainer, advocates, and campaigner. Prakash worked for five years as the Secretary-General of National Committee of Human Rights Education Club (HRERLIC-Nepal), a leading volunteer based human rights organization, from 1998 till 2002. He then worked as an intern in Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) for two years till mid 2004. In INSEC he was involved in variety of work from writing project proposals to reporting as well as conducting research and monitoring human rights violations. Prakash then motivated to establish a youth organization called Youth Action Nepal (YOAC) along with his university colleagues. He worked as the founder Secretary-General then President of YOAC for four years where he greatly contributed in organizing, involving and inspiring youth from across the country to the advocacy of human rights, peace and democracy during the armed conflict period in Nepal. He designed and managed more than 10 projects focused on enhancing youth participation in human rights, democracy and political affairs. Prakash, during his pick time of youth activism envisioned of organizing a largest non-partisan youth gathering in Nepal under the title of Nepal Youth Social Forum. This event brought a new wave mainstreaming youth issues in the national politics.
In 2006, Prakash was elected in the leadership position of two prominent civil society networks i.e. Association of Youth Organization Nepal (AYON) and Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP). In July 2007, Prakash coordinated two weeks long International Youth Peace Workshop in Nepal. Prakash also worked as a Civic Education and Local Democracy Project Coordinator in Danish Association of International Cooperation (MS Nepal) for six months. Prakash’s current status is Policy Advisor in Youth Action Nepal on voluntary basis.
