BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Education Development Initiative, herein referred to as EDI, is a non-governmental organization that aims at equipping youth, particularly those living in the midst of poverty, disease and conflict, with entrepreneurship skills and also enhance the ICT literacy rate and educational level of disadvantaged youth.
Youth development is one of the greatest legacy a country can give to their youth.
This serves as significant socio-economic force by providing livelihoods and contributing to development. It also has a likely attraction for volunteerism. Its training requires youth to attend school, especially those wanting to acquire education professionally. It can give the street child an opportunity to develop self competence and esteem. This will make them spend less time in sedentary pursuits such as violence, crime and other the social vices.
At Education Development Initiative, it is our belief that holistic training is necessary for children to succeed. For example, sports and other capacity building and good educational background will help them get scholarships to higher education, but they will also need to know how to use computers to be successful in higher education.
EDI looks to employ training skills in sports, computer literacy and education to espouse equity in social policies that address livelihood opportunities for socially excluded children and young people.
