About me
I have lived both in Canada and in Ireland. I hope one day to have the experience of living in yet another country, and showing my son the value of immersing one's self in a different culture and seeing the world from new perspectives.
In school I studied histories, cultures and belief systems, and I continue to study these subjects now on my own time. I am interested in many cultures across the world and across time, their distinct features and also the things they have in common.
I also studied English and am an avid reader of anything that captures my imagination and interest. Working on literacy and adult learning policy gives me a practical outlet for my passion for words, language and stories and my belief in the importance of developing literacy from childhood through adulthood.
I am inspired by my son to make our world a better place, to work to help other children have the health and confidence to see and reach their full potential, just as I would like my son to have. I also hope that I can inspire him to always learn, explore, help others and keep an open mind.
Currently, our family (my husband, son and I) are supporting two children through World Vision - one in Zambia and the other in Nicaragua. We hope to visit their communities and meet them one day. I am also hoping to develop or join an existing literacy project in these or other areas of the world.
