Tek Narayan Bhattarai (Tansen, Palpa, Nepal) - Age 25, BA in Sociology and Anthropology, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. Tek has five years of experience in human rights, democracy and peace activism working in Nepal as a civil society leader, project manager, good governance defender, researcher, trainer, advocates, and campaigner. Tek worked for three years as the secretary-general of good governance coordination committee Palpa, a leading volunteer based good governance, peace and human rights organization, from 2002 till 2005. Tek greatly contributed in organizing, involving and inspiring youth from across the country to the advocacy of good governance, human rights, peace and democracy during the armed conflict period in Nepal. He organized many public debits on peace, human rights and service delivery in different parts of Nepal.

He then entered in Pro Public (www.propublic.org), the leading NGO of Nepal, as a district program coordinator. He managed and conducted more than two hundred programs as well as trainings focused on enhancing youth participation in good governance, human rights, democracy and political affairs. Tek, during his pick time of social activism faced lots of threats from Maoist insurgence and security force.

He has been involving variety of work from program planning to writing project proposals as well as conducting various programs like public hearing, civic complaint platform, round table discussion, awareness training and so on. Likewise, research and monitoring human rights violations, writing articles, publishing study report are the regular tasks as a program coordinator in Pro Public.

In 2006 Tek has elected as general secretary of Palpa Jaycees, which is affiliated with International Jaycees, the well known worldwide society. Through these two organizations, Pro Public and Jaycees, Tek significantly contributed in the constituent assembly election in Nepal. In these days Tek has been managing both of organization as a key person. Likewise Tek has been paying attention to contribute to build New Nepal at any cost.

Focus tasks of Tek

–► HR Case filing on national and international HG organizations like Human Rights Commission, OHCHR, ICRC, Human Rights Watch of HG abuses and all kinds of HR violations.

–► Support other national and international organizations in the sharing the reports, information and help or guide them to visit victims for investigation, monitoring, research and also interpret them.

–► Play active role to create the pressure to realize law and order situation by civic society.

–► Reporting, publishing and documentation on the issues of violation of human rights, corruption and the regulation of law and order situation.

–► Organize and moderation public hearing, intraction program, round table discussion to create a healthy atmosphere among the political leaders, general people and administrators to arriving into constructive decision. And discuss over the development works through government bodies and access its benefit to the people.

–► Conduct training programs for GG and HR to aware youth, good governance defender and DAG group as well.
