About me
Refunite.org has created a unique search engine designed to streamline and simplify the process of locating family members torn apart in their escape.
An everyday convenience like the White Pages the West takes for granted; yet to a refugee in a foreign new world, to find anyone from back home often proves an insurmountable obstacle, especially since no central registry has been established to provide any form of interlinked communication. The international aid organizations have so far proven incapable of unifying their data, in addition to the millions of refugees that live under the radar. Most of them endure the knowledge that, somewhere, siblings, parents and other family carry on lives wishing, as they, that they could somehow be reunited.
Empowering the powerless
Through the strength of the search engine, it is possible to seek via anything from country to county, last name to last known location, while the engine progressively and intelligently narrows the search, enabling virtually all with just a minimal knowledge of their origin to locate anyone matching their criteria: The power rests in the hands of the seekers and the sought.
Our Mission/Safety
Our goal in helping refugees locate lost family via Refunite.org is to cut away all the barricades between the seeker and the sought, to allow the refugees direct access to each other through an immensely powerful - yet simple - search engine. Exactly what's needed in a situation like the one most refugees find themselves in: No .org employees to contact in a foreign country, no difficult forms to fill in and no technical obstacles to these human beings who are most often illiterate and worn out. And with the possibility of registering under family-known pseudonyms, and every search entirely anonymous if so desired, we offer security and invisibility for peace of mind.
The Origin of Refunite
The concept of Refunite.org was born after helping Mansour, a young Afghan refugee desperately seeking his 5 siblings and parents, lost to him at the age of 12 while escaping via Pakistan, through Central Asia, Europe and finally into Denmark. No government organization was able to unearth any information, and only after traveling back to Pakistan, aged 19, bribing his way, did he learn that his entire family had been split up and scattered across the globe. Together with what was to become Refugees United, Mansour began the almost impossible mission of locating and following traces, tracking his family into the global maze of refugees - without the slightest knowledge of anyone's whereabouts. The task remained immensely difficult! Until now...
