About me
For many years, about a century, economy hasn’t stopped its expansion in our society, mostly because of capitalism growth. As individuals who live in a capitalist society, we might not always realize how huge the impacts of our mode of life can be: we are completely going towards the end of the planet.
Nowadays, values established by the society are money and consumption and that way of thinking often brings people to over consumption. Although, what is the consequence of consumer increase? Obviously, industries development led to expansion of cities, which means destruction of natural environment. How many forests are decimated every year? Quite enough to bring some wild species to extinction because of their habitat loss, such as chimpanzee, alligator, panther, zebra, giant panda and others. But, nature is trying to alarm us of our lack of realism by sending more and more natural disasters and climate changes. Unfortunately, not enough people jump in the crowd: on the contrary, people are animated by motionlessness.
However, we know that our present mode of life is without future, that the children we will bring into the world will use neither oil nor a number of now familiar metals during their adult lives, that if current nuclear programs are implemented, uranium reserves will be exhausted by then.
We know that for a hundred and fifty years, industrial society has developed through the accelerated looting of reserves whose creation required tens millions of years. We thought that Science would find new paths, new processes to minimise natural resources using. At the opposite, all productive activity of technology needs the finite resources of the planet, which results in equilibrium fragility of the planet. Technology is supposed to fit with “evolution”, but it refers more to regression.
We know that our world is ending, that if we go on as before, the oceans and rivers will be sterile, the soil infertile and the air unbreathable in the cities.
The point is not to refrain from consuming more and more, but to consume less and less.
There is no other way of conserving the available reserves for future generations. However, I’m scared that human is like a forest fire: when it starts flaming, you can’t control it and it burns until there’s nothing left.
On the whole, if humans have been able to adapt themselves to the environment during two hundred thousands of years, why couldn’t they continue in this way instead of trying to adapt the environment to them and leading to the end?
