About me
My name is Katarina Rankovic. I am the Norwegian Language and Engagement Coordinator for the Tread Lightly program (http://treadlightly.tigweb.org). I am very excited at the prospect of promoting this educational environmental program to educators and youth in Norway.
I have always been eager to be involved in global issues. I am often frustrated by how blurry my view of the world is from where I'm standing. I think searching for understanding and educating ourselves is the best angle to tackle issues like global warming or poverty from.
I am 16 years old and have just started going to college. I like going to school, and practically wish I could go to school forever rather than narrowing down my interests and forming a career. This is a problem for me because I have far too many interests. Here are a few:
I love every kind of sport, but train fencing especially. Otherwise, my week includes swimming, basketball, running through forests and lakes (beautiful in Norway), dance and bike-riding.
Youtube is a really good place to go and learn something; I went through a whole Yale psychology course and learned how to sew and garden here too! I like to watch documentaries about science, philosophy and any kind of issue concerning the whole world.
I have an art studio where I spend hours working on various projects. Right now I am interested in designing and sewing clothes. I just made a handbag out of my jeans! I am also working on a street art project with my friend, Unn. We like to make art just using simple tools: pencil and paper.
I am searching for inspiration! Queen Rania, Beyonce, proffessor Shelly Kagan, Hermann Hesse, Russian fairytales, my friend Carol Berge, M.I.A, Alexander McQueen, Jennifer Corriero, Ang Lee, Akira Kurosawa, Henrik Ibsen, Jamie Oliver - thank you all for keeping me going!
