About me
Azubike Nwokoye, a Nigerian, curently sits on the steering committee of the African Civil Society Coalition on HIV/AIDS, www.africanhivaidscoalition.org, as a young African and for young Africans. He is a GYCA's Task Force Member, was formerly GYCA's Programme Officer based at its former South Secretariat and was the West African Regional Focal Point 2005 for the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) www.youthaidscoalition.org, a UNAIDS supported youth led alliance of over 2100 youth leaders and adult allies all over the world that focuses on four priorities which are; technical assistance and capacity building, increasing political will and commitment through advocacy training, sharing of best practices and opportunities and preparing youth for international conferences.
He is a Trade Justice Advocate and also a youth ICT4D project manager and professional as he is the project officer of YIELD – Youthful Initiatives for Economic, Environmental, Educational and Large-scale Development www.yieldevelopment.8m.net, a youth led ICT4D NGO. He serves as the mobilization Officer for the National Youth Network on HIV/AIDS (NYNETHA), Anambra state chapter, providing technical assistance and mobilization for the network; serves as a volunteer to many youth led NGOs and sits on several committees; member of diverse development networks.
Azubike started working on youth HIV/AIDS programming after carrying out a research project on the “Effects of Mass Media Campaigns on AIDS Awareness in Nigeria” during his final year in 2001. He has been reaching non-ICT connected youth, rural youth, CSWs, IDUs, MSM and works with YPLWHA on HIV/AIDS programming.
Azubike holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication; a Certificate in Diplomacy Training Programs’ Human Rights, WTO and Trade under the faculty of law, University of New South Wales, Australia as Oxfam International Youth Parliament (OIYP) Trade Justice Project Partner 2005; Certificate in Training of Trainers course on HIV Curriculum for the Health Professional by Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative/Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Training, U.S.A; World Bank Institute Certificate in Debate to Action (DTA), a British Council/World Bank pilot learning program (http://www.worldbank.org/depweb/english/debate.htm) to build the capacity of youth organizations towards achieving the MDGs in Nigeria.
