I am Bijay. I work in youth issues, Sustainable Development. I am highly interested to work in the field of ICT, Youth Employment and Social Reserarch. Presently, I am President of Youth for Change Nepal, youth-run, youth-led social organization working in youth, HIV/AIDS, human rights, SRHR,etc. I am also founding Treasurer of USSHA Foundation(Underprivileged Societal Service and Helping Action) . USSHA Foundation is an action based development foundation established to generate an aggregated effort to alleviate developmental setbacks of the communities. ’If anyone is interested to join/help/understand our organization please write me.
Currently I have been elected as an Excutive member of Association of Youth Organizations Nepal(AYON)
I have completed my B.A majoring in Sociology/Anthropology and English. I am interested in ICT, Youth Social Enterprenuership, Anthropology and research projects related to youth, Employment and Sustainable Development.
Not longer, but exciting and challenging experiences I have gained throughout my leadership period. Involving from youth club in a rural village to a National level youth organizations’ network, it has been a great time for me learning, interacting and developing expertise in youth leadership, cultural exchange, Millennium Development Goals or community service. Above all, my involvement in Youth for Change, Nepal (YC), a youth organization working for ‘informing, strengthening and changing’ youth in community level was remarkable experience that I had.
For the first time, I got involved in the social sector by participating in an interaction program, which was focused on ‘Media, Democracy and Youth’. Then after, I had taken many trainings on different issues like youth leadership, life skills, civic concern, Human Rights, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, HIV and AIDS, interaction on Youth and MDGs etc. These trainings and participating in various formal/informal discussions provided me valuable experiences on working with youth. Presently, being a leader of YC, I have been organizing, coordinating or facilitating one or more of the trainings, consultations, discussions, seminars etc. I am also the representative of YC for Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON), a youth organizations national network. These involvements have provided me a space and forum to learn, share and work from community level to national level.
Few of my most striking and important experiences, involvements and role, I had had in the following three large events in Nepal. YC was one of the core organizers of first Nepal Youth Social Forum (NYSF) (December 30-31, 2006). NYSF is a large youth gathering having more than 50 national and international youth organizations as organizers where around 1500 youth were participants. I was coordinating different workshops, press conference, media coordination, out door events etc. during the NYSF from the part of YC. Likewise, I involved as a regional coordinator of Stakeholders’ Consultation for The Formulation of National Youth Employment Action Plan (27-28 June 2007, Pokhara). I coordinated one consultation with youth representatives and three focused group discussions with HIV infected and affected youth, youth in sports and music in Western Development Region of Nepal. This consultation was jointly organized by National Planning Commission of Nepal, International Labor Organization (ILO) and AYON. Also, I worked as an assistant coordinator of National Youth Assembly (NYA) (October 6, 7 and 8, 2007), a beginner of its kind, where more than 300 youth from all over the nation were participating. My role was management and coordination of the overall conference. The main theme of this conference was ‘Vision for New Nepal’. Along with these, presently I am working voluntarily as program coordinator of USSHA Foundation; a development foundation in Nepal for its first work camp project in coordination with a Seattle based non-profit organization, Community Empowerment Network, to foster the work-camp campaign in Nepal for youth and sustainable development.
Therefore, as far I have come I am aware on the community socio-political and economical issues of Youth in Nepal, though not perfect yet. I am eager to learning which brings a way towards improving my skills and expertise.
