Today, 8 million of the world's 14 million refugees are warehoused. They are denied their basic human rights including the right of movement, employment, and ownership of property. Unlike Canada and the US, these host countries confine refugees to camps for 10, 20 or 40 years, arresting and deporting them to their native countries if they stray too far. Camps are the breeding ground for disease, child soldiering, terrorist recruitment, and physical and sexual violence--> and these camps are often funded by UNHCR and UNDP This June 20th, World Refugee Day, please take the time to learn about refugee warehousing and learn how you can advocate for the freedom of refugees.
