Background: With the threat pose by human activity of all forms to the environment and effect on its ability to sustain our needs and that of future generations, a youth service group was formed in 1993 to offer support services to farming communities to primarily undertake agroforestry projects initially in Kumikrom. The success of this initiative and the need to involve as many youths as possible in ecological restoration and decision making processes as future policy makers, led to the reorganisation of the service group upon consultation with several interest partners which resulted in the incorporation of the service group as Youth Club for Nature Conservation. To address the need and involve the youth in the area of community, energy, agricultural and environmental development. Mission: We are dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity to secure an improve livelihood for all people, by educating the youth and women in communities and educational institutions on ecological issues, restoration strategies, and support sustainable community participatory development programs, through the provision of voluntary services of youth experts in varying fields in natural resources conservation, education, and community development. Objectives: Promote the protection and conservation of natural resources through collaboration with communities to meet the needs of rural population and conservation purposes. Increase communities understanding of biodiversity and foster a more integrated approach to biodiversity utilisation. Involve the youth in local and global environmental activities/events, education groups, organisations and collaborators in resource management Strategies: Our objectives are achieved through training workshops, discussion groups, seminars, group formation and empowerment, student/community collaborative research on local environment and indigenous developmental strategy so as to make them more sustainable and integrate them into mainstream developmental practice and policies. We also collaborate with community based youth groups to undertake income generating activities for the improvement of their livelihood conditions. Membership Being a youth-serivce non profit organisation, membership is open to dedicated youth with experties in varying fields of education and development, who can and will make their experties accessible to communities for the course of natural resources conservation, education for empowerment, community infrastructure development and income generating activities for and the youth women. Others are admitted as Advisors, Supporters and Associate Members, corporate bodies with programs on ecological restoration are accorded Honorary Membership upon expression of interest and support for community based projects for improved livelihood for the youth and women.
