"Who cares about the kids in Africa? We have peer pressure to worry about"~ A friend.

That friend and I argued about that for a while. I care about the kids in Africa.

Hi, I'm me, and I've just subsribed to TIG.

Mid-December till Mid-January I was on a holiday to Iraq. It wasn't a pretty picture.

The roads were all mud. The electricity was cut 50% of the time. No hot water... They had to have letters mailed to them every month saying what foods were contaminated and shouldn't be eaten.

Nobody should have to live like that- and I know it gets worse. Cuz atleast, hey, they have clean water, even though it's filled with chlorine and induces diarrheoa. And atleast they have shelters, right?

It strikes me now. I don't want to work in an office. I don't want to be gone from 9-5 staring out of the window of a concrete building just to see another concrete building. I don't want to go home and watch the news at 6 pm and see people starving in the world and be reminded of how I'm taking my life for granted. I want to DO SOMETHING.

There is a bit of paradise left in the world, and sadly, that bit of paradise is the home to people malnourished and diseased- Africa.

All the cultural of the ancient African religions prevails to this day. Yet it's not what we think of when we see Africa.

We think... children with bodies too big for their limbs. Orphans drinking dirty water. Mothers and fathers dying of AIDs. Little girls being raped.

We think of Sir Bob Geldofe, Midge Ure and Bono rounding up stars to release "Do they know it's christmas time at all?" and send the profits to Ethopia. It's useful, it's needed but...

It's a temporary solution to what looks like at this moment in time to be a permanent problem.

Australia, why aren't you part of the G-8? Why are you doing nothing? Why did you steal oil from East Timor and only pay back a minuet fraction of what is owed? Why did you cause East Timor to become the poorest country in the world? Shame on you.

I STRONGLY believe in Religious acceptance. Personally, I think that religion should teach you the past, not guide your future. But the morals of Islam, Christianity and Judiasm, were right for people who lived at that time and in those places. They worked then but they don't work now. We need to make our own morals, now that we have so many things to think about and so many ways of thinking about them. Moses, Jesus, Mohammed and Buddha were all great figures and I give them the deepest of my respects.

~ over and out.

PS: I'm not looking for love. I don't have the time, energy or even the characteristics to be in a relationship. I'd rather be friends k? :P
