About me
I am Vikram Laishram aged 24 years old, currently working as the President for the Manipur Intravenous League, a drug user organization for drug users.
I started working as a volunteer in the WHO/OXFAM supported Continuum of Care project in the year 1998.My interest were on providing Home Based Care for PLWHAs, guiding outpatients in hospitals undergoing Voluntary Counseling and Testing.
In the year 1999, I worked for the World Bank/NACO supported Rapid Intervention and Care project as a peer educator. I under went many trainings and educational programmes on prevention of HIV/AIDS in the Institute of Social Disease. I facilitated trainings for school teachers on implementing Life Skills Based Education in schools.
In the year 2000, I worked as a peer educator for a community based organization, Social Awareness Service Organization on Needle Syringe Exchange program for Injecting Drug users. I conducted group discussions, distribute IEC materials to public.
In the year 2001, I worked as a peer educator for the Family Planning Association of India in a One year pilot project on Prevention of HIV/AIDS. I was involved in conducting Base line survey for high risk groups, facilitating Advocacy programs in the Community.

I joined a community based organization led by young people, People's Empowerment Organization as the secretary in the year 2003. I coordinated the Global Health Council program, the International AIDS Candlelight memorial every year as the official local coordinator in my country.

In 2004, I was awarded full scholarship by the International AIDS Society to participate in the International AIDS conference in Bangkok. I was chosen as a youth speaker for the Asian Youth Forum during the conference.
In the year 2005, I joined the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS as the Regional Focal Point for South Asia.
I represented the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS at a press briefing on the launching of Youth report for the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS review meeting youth side event on 1st June 2005 which was hosted by UNFPA in UN headquarters, New York.
In the year 2006, I received an award given by the International Youth Foundation and Nokia for my leadership contributions as a Young Leader working on HIV/AIDS in my community in a small award ceremony held in Washington DC, USA.
