Also, I love read, my favorite authors are Lucy Maud Montgomery, Jane Austen and David Edding. I like to listen TV shows too, my favorite TV show is Supernatural. The sports I like the most are volleyball and badminton. There is a text I wrote that explain what I did to be involve in a cause: Here, in Quebec, we have great living conditions, so we attract a lot of immigrants. Less than the United Sates, for sure, but we still are a popular country for immigration. However, some prejudices are present in our society even if we count on immigration for making grow our population. We try to educate students to this situation and we try, as society, to make them more tolerant, but often old prejudices are convey. So, the best way to sensitize our society is to promote the positive side of the immigrant’s cultures. I decide, to promote culture, to make a video for AFS Interculture Canada. This organization is related to my field of study and interested me. Also, I will describe the benefits of an organization like that and what I will do for taking the Canada’s situation global. This organization does student’s exchange in many countries like Australia, Japan, Honduras, etc. AFS Interculture Canada is related to my field of study, social sciences, because culture is included in practically all the courses: history, sociology, policy, etc. Culture serves to explain a lot of problematic situations. Also, AFS Interculture interested me, because I love to discover other cultures. I mean I like to learn other way of life. Sometimes, it can be a lesson for us because, in some country, life can be hard and the habitants poor. More, people can realize that they need help and give them help in their way. AFS Interculture Canada brings particular benefits because the students are living in another country so they are immerge in their culture, often different of our. On their website, the organization enumerates the benefits of student’s exchange. One of them is to learn a new language, 47% of their full year student are able to speak easily the host language. More benefits come with student exchange such as gain an understanding of another country and culture, feel more comfortable with other culture, etc. In our society too, there are a lot of positive points for immigration. Every day, people are in contact with another culture. It can be to eat at a Chinese or a Greek restaurant or watch an American TV show. It can also be reading a Britain’s author. Culture touches us each day of our life so it’s important to be tolerant toward immigrants. So, to counter prejudice toward other culture, I will promote AFS Interculture Canada because it’s a positive way to put an end at prejudice toward immigrants. I will do a video, in stacking pictures of stranger’s students, with always the same person on each picture. I will place that person in different daily life situations. In that way, people are going to see that students, of other country, resemble us. In conclusion, the best way to stop prejudice toward immigrants is to promote the positive side of immigration. Since we are touch by immigration every day, it’s important to learn to live peacefully with other persons with other cultures. We could learn a lot from them. An organization, AFS Interculture Canada, has a similar goal. They do student’s exchange that can be an excellent adventure to learn to live in harmony with people with another culture. Me, for my involvement, I choose to do a video to promote AFS Intercultre Canada because it’s a positive side of immigration since students stay some months to a year in another country. Now, our government should do the same to counter prejudice. They should promote the positive side of immigration.
