About Me   About Me
Theobald Mukena grew up in Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa region of Namibia. While attending high school in Swakopmund, Theobald excelled in soccer and track, and joined the national under-20 soccer team in 2002. He also found time to coach three school soccer teams and become involved with My Future is My Choice, an AIDS and drugs awareness program for the school youth. Following graduation, Theobald commenced training as a graphic artist. In January 2003, he began volunteering at the Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre as a member of the Youth Forum. This group, comprised of individuals from 16 to 35 years of age, meets weekly to discuss topics of special importance to local youth, including HIV/AIDS, community development, and sport. In May and June of 2003, he participated in the Participatory Assessment of RH/HIV Prevention Needs of Younger Youth, and was subsequently appointed to lead community research into the sexual behavior among youths 8-11 and 12-16 years of age. The findings of this research were presented to the ministry of Health and Social Services, business leaders, and several church organizations in July 2003. As the current Chairperson of the Walvis Bay Youth Forum, Theobald has organized two Workshops in Practical Democracy, coordinated a program to provide constructive activities for children during school holidays, and created the weekly Walvis Bay Youth Paper in cooperation with the Namib Times. In 2004 Theobald was nominated to serve as a YouthNet (Technical Adversary Group) TAG member, to advise YouthNet on youth R/H matters. As a TAG member Theobald helped YouthNet and its implementing partner (COLS) to implement the CFLE curriculum (Christian Family Life Educator) and was trained as a master trainer. Theobald now works as a Graphic Designer and Webmaster (volunteer) at the Walvis Bay Multi-Purpose Centre, a centre that caters for PLWHA and youth. Theobald has managed to produce broachers, business cards, posters and designed and updates the centre
