Thaddeus Ferber joined the Forum for Youth Investment in 1998 as a John Gardner Public Service Fellow. As program director, he directs the Forum’s work related to policy. Author of multiple publications, Thaddeus represents the Forum as spokesperson at national events and conferences (such as the federal government’s National Youth Summit), as well as on national media outlets (such as National Public Radio). He provides advice and testimony to foundations (such as the Atlantic Philanthropies), major nonprofits (such as America’s Promise), and government agencies (such as the New Mexico Children’s Cabinet and the Maryland Joint Committee on Children, Youth and Families).
Thaddeus launched the Ready by 21™ State and Local Network of over 500 state and local public officials and policy makers committed to working across organizational and agency lines to better the lives of young people. He helped draft and advance the Federal Youth Coordination Act, creating a council of the Secretaries of all major federal departments charged with aligning federal efforts for youth. Thaddeus launched the Youth Policy Action Center (www.youthpolicyactioncenter.org), a collaborative effort by over 40 organizations to build a national constituency that contacts elected officials about youth issues.
Thaddeus is the Program Committee Chair of the Mentor’s Inc. Board of Directors, and serves on the Campaign for Youth’s Steering Committee. Prior to his work at the Forum, he was involved in youth development research, writing, practice and policy within a number of organizations, both in the United States and abroad. These included the President’s Crime Prevention Council, chaired by Vice President Al Gore; the Forum for Youth Affairs in Tel Aviv, Israel; the Stanford Center on Adolescence; the John Gardner Center for Children and Communities; and the HOME Project, a community-based youth action organization in Alameda, California. Thaddeus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Youth Development and Policy from Stanford University.
