With a persistent and flexible approach to beneficial achievement of personal goals, Rawl Prescott participated in Youth Challenge International (Guyana)’s B phase international field project in 2000 working in several Amerindian communities completing infrastructural, HIV/AIDS education, environmental and life skills project with a committed and motivated team. Upon completion of this dynamic and life-changing programme, he functioned as a unit leader in a Life Skills summit hosted by YCG as part of his community service. There after he served as a volunteer and later a Peer Educator engaging people, particularly youths, in making safe and informed life choices by facilitating sessions and discussions on preventing HIV infection, providing information and developing skills leading to behavioral change.
This 25 year old, who is highly articulate, confident and persuasive team-builder and who is able to motivate and communicate to achieve exceptional performance, finds his experience as a volunteer challenging and rewarding. Through his volunteer activities with YCG, he has developed leadership skills, acquire facilitation, relationship, conflict resolution skills and improve communication and other skills. Through his involvement with YCG, he is recognized as a leader by his peers and his community. YCG has afforded him the opportunity to be a role whilst building lasting friendships and relationships.
A strong believer in the Swahili proverb that “youth development will be brought by youth themselves”, he now works at Youth Challenge Guyana as the Assistant HIV/AIDS Programme Coordinator where he engages youths in designing and implementing programmes in accordance with their values and the agency’s objectives.
Rawl Prescott continues to have lasting life experiences at YCG whilst ensuring others have an experience “that will last a lifetime”.
