WEN-YIN SUSAN LIU Wen-Yin Susan was born and raised in Taiwan and immigrated to Vancouver with her family in 1992. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Simon Fraser University in BC and she has worked in several grassroots NGO promoting volunteerism and multiculturalism. She has participated in a Canada World Youth exchange program to Poland, and completed a DFAIT internship where she helped to transform China Labour Bulletin, a bi-monthly labour rights journal in Hong Kong, into a web magazine (http://www.china-labour.org.hk/iso/). While working for Citizenship and Immigration Canada as an Immigration Officer, Susan had the opportunity to translate for the “boat people” arriving from the Fujian province of China at the shore of Vancouver Island. This experience has prompted her interest in the global migration issues and the plight of refugees. She has since pursued a one-year MA program in International Development Administration at the University of Manchester, Institute of Development Policy and Management (IDPM), while representing the Rotary Foundation as the Ambassadorial Scholar. Susie Liu joined the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre in January 2004 as a Research Intern. Her work includes researching and compiling materials for the Humanitarian Assistance course. Upon completing her internship with the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, Susan will begin a one-year project with Right to Play and UNHCR working in the Impevi Refugee Camp in north-west Uganda.
