About Me |
My name is Surya, I am 22 years old and I live in Nepal. I am currently studying Public Health in Pokhara University (4 year health science and technology program). Aside from Health issues, I am interested in blogging, designing, chatting, and making new friends, digital media, dance and social works.
My interest in online volunteering started out as a casual activity. One of my class mates was my inspiration for using TIG. My path to TIG began in 2008, when I was 20, and got experience a lot within a short period of time. I started volunteering for TIG in 2009, mostly to try to make a difference. When I got involved with TIG I wanted to start a project in my country but I had no idea how to make the first step, after a while, I got chance to take a sprout e-course which helped me to learn about various project designs, plans, connections and assessments, as a result, I really learned things that were precious and later launched a project “Let’s Change”, funded by Youth Service America. This was my first and wonderful experience I gained ever.
I started becoming more serious about online volunteering when I saw the impact of my contributions. Some organizations sent feedback on my accomplishments, some issued certificates, some promoted me to higher responsibility, as a whole, I created an online network. Currently, I am a Global Gallery curator for TIG.
Working with TIG is a truly pleasing chance, but not free of Challenges. I think that I have been very lucky in my experiences because, in spite of an initial one year of searching the web in search for opportunities and figuring out my place in the net, I was able to find TIG by the aid of my friend, which was actually working to make things better for people. The experience has inspired me sufficient to make me want to dedicate at least a part of my career to community issues. I think this meadow leaves a bunch of span for personal maturity, though of track, the dare remains finding a way to resolve my activism with my studies and my other interests.
