About Me |
I'm the Coordinator of Educational Technology at the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 for the Curriculum Services Department. I will be working with Northampton HS and Stroudsburg HS in Eastern Pennsylvania. I have over ten years of experience in the public school system and about 8 years experience in the integration of technology in the curriculum. I'm also an adjunct professor for Wilkes University in the Instructional Technology Certification program and I also teach for East Stroudsburg University on occasion.
I have fairly extensive experience in instructional technology, especially related to coaching and working with teachers. I also have a genuiune interest in differentiated instruction. I am currently running a D.I. and technology for secondary teacher academy out of my IU. My experience and interests come from newer interactive technologies...mostly Web 2.0 type tools. I do plenty of presentations and trainings for IU20 directed at school improvement and how technology can be a tool to assist in reaching AYP. I'm in the curriculum department so I do spend a large majority of my time working with initiatives from PDE and supporting the 13 school districts and 3 vocational education entities in our region.
A current project that I’m working with our districts is a social networking tool called ELGG. It’s much like a MySpace type tool but really designed for education. We’re piloting it with several classes and peer groups right now and it’s really beginning to take off! I also co-chair the K12 subgroup for MAGPI for Interent2. It’s really new with our districts but we truly see it as a powerful way to get kids to live and experience the content. This medium is really making an impact and I’m proud to be a part of it. Another one of my educational obsessions is online learning. I truly love it! The Internet and 24/7 access to content is perfect for the Classrooms of the Future. Think about the idea of being able to access content anywhere. There’s beginning to be a bunch of data coming back that says that when kids have access to viable instructional content, they go back! It’s amazing but imagine a world of learners utilizing technology as a tool for learning…and it keeps them interested! Amazing! I’m also involved in an online content development project where we have teachers developing online remedial modules targeting the eligible content for math and reading. We’re working with 48 school districts on this project and every school will be able to benefit from the extensive partnering.
I feel like there’s so much that I’m involved with and I hope that I’ll be able to give good input and ideas to the group. I’m really excited about this project!
