 About Me |
Suzie will be interning with the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA, http://www.youthaidscoalition.org), an international alliance of young people addressing HIV/AIDS in 150 countries worldwide. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University.
Suzie’s interests in social justice, public health, volunteerism, and humanitarian aid led her to work with GYCA. Her experience began while planning the International Youth Volunteerism Summit (www.iyvs.org) in 2006. The annual summit brings together students and global change-makers to build their skills, knowledge, and capacities to engage in responsible, effective, and sustainable change. As Content Director this year, Suzie will be connecting with nonprofits and grassroots organizations worldwide to find the most innovative and effective methods for global action. Additionally, Suzie has worked to raise awareness on Northwestern’s campus through speaker series, videoconferences, and seminars about global issues such as: human trafficking, US-Muslim relations, global warming, international media, malaria, and most recently, microbicides.
Suzie volunteered with an HIV/AIDS research study at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán in Mexico City in 2006. The research dealt with the efficacy of NNRTI vs. PI drug schemes. Suzie plans to study Human Rights and Anthropology at the Universidad de Buenos Aires beginning in February 2008. Future plans include pursuit of a medical degree, and work with global health in Latin America.
