Simeon Sahr Komba hails from the diamond rich town of Koidu town, Kono district, in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone. Born in 1983, he attended the Aladura Primary School Koidu Town from 1991- 1997. In spite of the attraction to wealth and affluence, he left the diamond province to accelerate his learning in the capital city of Freetown. Simeon continued his secondary education at the West Africa Methodist Collegiate Secondary, and the Government Model Secondary School, between 1998- 2004. Currently a recipient of the Freshmen’s Award for Excellence, Simeon is poised to traverse into tertiary education where he will be studying Political Science and International Relations. His effort as a youth leader of iEARN Sierra Leone dates back to 2000 during the Planet Poll Digital Ambassador Project. His dedication, vision and activism gave birth to the expansion of iEARN Sierra Leone to his native Kono district, which attracted a computer and shipping donation from Computer Aid International in the UK and Gibbs Trust, UK. Due to his diligence, the Kono center is flourishing. His efforts have garnered a recognition from the World Bank in being part of the iEARN Sierra Leone video production team for the 2007 Global Development Report, which focuses on youth unemployment. Simeon completed a number of successful interviews for this documentary. Much earlier, Simeon contributed to the Youth CaN project, Bullying.org, Childsoldiers.org, and has initiated an online interaction regarding child mining, which has been the subject of global discussion by students, teachers, professionals and the like. He was a participant at the following initiatives: UNFPA (United Nations Funds for Population Activities), Ministry of Development and Social Planning, and Sierra Leone’s launching of the State of the World Population- Women And International Migration- (Moving Young). Simeon quite recently was called to document the launch of the Youth Employment Scheme organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the government of Sierra Leone at the Miatta Conference Hall on October the 9th, 2006. Simeon’s vision is to see many children and youth of Kono become free from the harmful practice of child mining and take up real educational roles via new forms of information technology.
