Life is full of challenges. Some will say that the world is unequal or unfair, and truly, how could you disagree with them? Some people cry for not having the brand new 2010 luxury BMW, while those in Africa are struggling on a daily basis to find something to eat.

I think that people on Earth should help our friends living in misery and poverty. A few weeks ago, we had a perfect example of a devastating disaster that occurred in Haiti. People across the globe were affected by this tragedy and empathised for those living in Haiti. Everyone came together for this cause and fortunately, the wealthiest countries gave money and sent help for those in Haiti in a moment of pure crisis.

This was an example that involved and required the assistance of communities worldwide, but before making a change in the world, we should start by changing our ways of thinking and behaving. Everybody, including myself, can improve their contribution to the world by making a slight change to their daily routines. For example, I buy a coffee every morning on weekdays. Here are the ways I could help just by making minor changes and improvements to my daily routine. Instead of throwing my coffee cup in the garbage, I could put it in the recycling bin. I could buy a smaller cup of coffee or make my own coffee at home. In addition, the money I won’t spend on buying coffee can be donated towards charities.

The proverb ''Giving without expecting anything in return'' would suit me perfectly. I don't want to begin a religious debate, but I think that we were born on Earth with an incredible chance of making a difference in someone else’s life. Some people have difficulty trying to find true meaning to their lives and spend way too much time whining about what they don't have. Rather, we should focus on being happy and grateful for what we do have.

I'd like to quote Sven Goran Eriksson, the manager for the England soccer team from 2001 to 2006 (By the way, this is my favourite soccer team). He said: ''The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure''. In other words, this statement could be considered to some as ''stepping out of the comfort zone''. I truly respect those who take chances in life and who make an effort to change something they have difficulty with. It might sound stupid, but I will admire someone who was previously a drug addict, but who attempts to take charge of his life knowing that there is the possibility that he might fail. It's a true example of determination.
