About me
“There are two ways of spreading light:
to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”
This quote by Edith Wharton left an imprint on young Sayma Hai from when she was in grade five. Since then, it’s been her mission to go out in the world and do good, to spread the light she’s been fortunate to receive. It has been a long term goal for her to travel to developing countries to volunteer her time and skills to help their communities. Sayma is thrilled to be part of the Youth Challenge International team to visit Costa Rica for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Summer 2010.
Sayma was born in a family of loving parents who inspired her to be her best self and go after her dreams. Sayma has an older brother and a younger sister.
Sayma is passionate about learning and growing. She championed student leadership development in her University days and for a few years after graduation. This passion evolved into her current profession in Human Resources. In her work, Sayma is a project manager of new and best-in-class HR programming in talent management, leadership development, career management, compensation and benefits, and more.
When not working, Sayma enjoys playing tennis and meeting friends to have picnics at the park in the summer. Her other passions include interior design and cake decorating. Sayma is a member of Toastmasters International, where she is working on honing her public speaking and presentations skills. She is also an active alumna of her Alma mater, York University and enjoys volunteering with local charities.
Education is a core value for Sayma and she hopes to build a medical school and hospital in Bangladesh one day. To that end, she is working on establishing a medical school scholarship program to help pay for tuition for a medical school student in financial need.
