Nowadays, technologies evolve very fast. No matter what is the latest gadget we buy, there always seems to be a better version available. This wave of over consumption concerns everybody. Actually, «the number of products available in a shopping centers is higher than the number of living species on earth.» During the last century, over consumption become a dependance among our society. This behaviour is defined like being «a penible mood, contageous and socialy transmissible, of debts, anxiety, wasting, resulting from the will to have always more. »
We are now in an avide society in which we work very hard to be able to buy expansive stuff. This over consumption can lead to many problems like family problems. To be able to get all this expansive material, parents need to work harder and it does’t leave a lot of time to work on their family. Happiness is now based on the money that one ownsin order to buy whatever one wants. In other words, money leads to a certain freedom. Often, someone’s social status is based on what he owns. Some individuals prefer to have debts to be able to buy more luxurious stuff than the neighbor . It is important to mention that the acquisition of a new object often involves a snowball effect since it generates other expenses. For example, the purchase of a car implies, in Quebec, the purchase of winter tires, of windchill washer, gasoline, engine oil, etc Nobody can avoid it since we are constantly sollicited. The companies invest amazing amounts of cash in publicities and try to join all the ethnic groups by diversifying their publicity campaigns. Moreover, the marketing specialists “use children so that they force their parents to buy expensive stuff, like luxurious cars, houses and trips. » We are presently in an era where we can comsume goods from the comfort of our homes.
You can easily buy either online or directly from TV. What several people seem to forget is that according to the Maslow’s famous pyramid, the superfluous tangible properties do not constitute a fundamental need for the human survival. Those multinationals create needs in order to make some profit.
Finaly, all this over consumption leads to problems that could be avoid.
