 About Me |
Hi, I am Sandie. I was born and grew up in Taiwan. I was born with two digits on each limb. As an artist, I have made a series of body adornments to explore my memories of the social interactions that were focused on the appearance of my body. To me, art making is about self-expression, identity exploration, healing and empowerment.
In my recent work, I examine the potential of art to address the relationship between the body and social standards pertaining to beauty and disability. Art making about personal experience has transformed itself into raising societal consciousness about human differences. As I present my identity as a disabled artist in the foreground, I intend to challenge the viewer to engage in a more nuanced and intentional process of seeing art and human body.
I currently reside in California while attending graduate school for art practice at University of California, Berkeley.
