About Me

Richard Chu is a writer, journalist and photographer having worked as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Vancouver's daily newspaper, the Vancouver Sun, and has served as an editor of several youth publications.

He is an active member of Soka Gakkai International Association of Canada (SGI Canada), a lay Buddhist organization dedicated to promoting "peace through culture and education" from the philosophical basis of Nichiren Buddhism.

Within SGI Canada in Vancouver, he is a founding member of the SGI Canada Vancouver Earth Charter Committee, which has, since 2003, actively promoted the Earth Charter and based community activities on the values of the Charter in the Greater Vancouver region. The committee was a recipient in 2005 of the Mayor's Environmental Achievement Award and one of 10 nominees for the Earth Charter Initiative's Award.
