At the mention of journalism and human rights advocacy in Nigeria, the name of Peter Ajayi comes to mind. Charismatic, dynamic and down to earth individual was born on the 24th of April in the 1974 in a village known as Ora in Ido Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. He is an administrator and manager of human and material resources. Educational Qualifications: Endowed with high intelligence and a fertile mind, he started his Primary Education at Methodist Primary School, Ora Ekiti where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1979. He later attended Ora Community High School where he sat for his first Secondary School Certificate Examinations in 1991. Thereafter, he gained admission into Kwara State College of Education. Oro where he obtained his Nigeria Certificate in Education, NCE in French and Yoruba Languages. Having realized the importance of Information Technology and to enable him compete favourably in this world of globalization, he enrolled and obtained Certificate in Desktop Publishing from NEK Computers School. Lagos. In furtherance of his desire to acquire knowledge more importantly, making a rare difference in journalism, he later secured admission to study journalism in the School of Communication, Lagos State University where he obtained Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Personal Qualities: His early pursuit of professional experience and acquisition of knowledge, readiness to work and humility has endeared him to his superiors at work during which he has been able to acquire additional personal qualities such as ability to work in a complex and team environment, ability to work congenially and effectively under challenging circumstances, ability to work independently and without supervision when necessary, ability to accept guidance and direction, ability to supervise, ability to mentor colleagues and subordinates, as well as ability to interact effectively with people from various background or class. Professional Body He is a member of the Nigeria Institute of Professional Secretaries Work Experience: His interest to fight injustice, defend the oppressed and the violated has spurred him to seek employment in human rights organizations more importantly to acquire the needed knowledge and understanding to enable him establish a human rights and charitable organization wherein fundamental rights of the populace could be protected. For more than a decade, he has been involved in human rights, civil society and charitable activities during which period he has worked with Amnesty International being an International voluntary activist movement working for human rights with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. Among various offices held include: Administrative Officer, Staff and Board Secretary, Group Development Officer, Group Coordinator and National Chairperson. Centre for Human Rights Education & Reporting His interest and desire to work for humanity has necessitated his ability to found a human rights organization known as Centre for Human Rights Education & reporting (www.chrer.org).The mission of the centre - a non-governmental human rights organization, based in Nigeria is to educate and promote human rights through monitoring, documenting and reporting human rights in order to improve knowledge and human rights norms as enshrined in national and international statutes. The organization is publisher of The View Magazine – a human rights publication published and distributed at no cost to increase and enrich human rights literacy. While serving as Director of the organization, he is also Editor-in-Chief of the magazine. Helping Hands for Africa Due to his knowledge and understanding of human rights and charitable organization, he is volunteer Director of Helping Hands for Africa - a non partisan public charity and private voluntary organization with specific missions to adopting and maintaining orphanages, donation of educational materials, clothes and school supplies, provision of health care delivery and awareness campaign.
