My name is Pamy Teja. I have recently graduated from UBC with a degree in Political Science. After completing my degree I went to Ghana through Youth Challenge International. This experience exceeded my expectations. I was in a team of six girls and we worked directly with youth in their communities for ten weeks. We coordinated and facilitated workshops on leadership, gender and HIV/AIDS issues. Our group also compiled a Gender Manual which will be used nationally through our local partner organization, the YMCA. Currently, after returning home, I am still actively involved with Youth Challenge through their Volunteer Action Network Program. I have started a team in Vancouver on poverty issues in the downtown eastside. I currently work with a non-profit organization, Operation Eyesight. They prevent and restore blindness in developing countries with Africa and India being their main focus. Their goal is to create and/or strengthen a sustainable comprehensive eye care program. Operation Eyesight transforms villages and lives everyday and I am happy to be working with them. I have been accepted to the post-grad program for International Development at Humber for the fall of 2009. I hope to work with an international organization one day where I can make a difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate.
