Did you know that the Rural has been marginalized? This is a short Brochure that publicises Zion of life Orphans Foundation (hereby referred in short as Zolof), A Home Based Care Project for Orphans. Widows, Youths and the Aged. It is a registered Non-profit making , Community Based Initiative in East Kano Location of KibigoriDivision In Nyando District- Kenya. LOCATION Kibigori Location lies nearly some 60Km Kisumu. RATIONALE FOR ITS ESTABLISHMENT The project was established following a realization that : 1. HIV/ AIDS continues to create havoc leaving behind many helpless orphans and widows. 2. The high cost of Education and the increasing number of untrained youths. 3. The Aged, though economically unproductive, have the rights for the basic human needs. OBJECTIVES The primary objective is in The Care and Support of Persons Affected/ Infected by HIV/ AIDS. These are people who have lost the persons who are charged with the direct responsibility of providing their basic human needs to HIV/ AIDS. They include; Orphans, Widows, Youths and Aged. The priority areas associated to this objectives includes: 1. Food and Nutrition 2. Education and Training 3. Health and Medication 4. Clothing and Shelter AIMS By choosing to address the objective above ZOLOF aims at solving the following problems: 1. Reducing Infant Mortality and Stunted Growth in Orphans by providing food, medication and clothing for better health. 2. Ensuring that Basic Education is achieved by all Orphans however costly it is. 3. Moulding the Youths to be Economically productive by sponsoring/ training them to various faculties hence collaborating with the Government in its poverty alleviation policies. 4. Reducing widows work load and discriminatory practise by offering material support and identifying strategies for self- reliance by establishing Small Enterprise Developments (SED) and Income Generating Activities ( IGAS). 5. Reducing starvation of the Elderly persons by offering material support hence caring for their well being. ZOLOF therefore wants to effect an improvement in the living conditions of the affected persons. ACTIVITIES Nyafupro runs two programmes concurrently: 1. HOME BASED CARE This involves the provision of Direct Resource Services to the Beneficiaries. It incorporates visiting the orphans, widows and Aged in their respective places of residence where distribution of food and clothing items is done. The sick are assisted to hospitals where check-ups are made and the drugs bought to them as per the Doctor’s prescriptions. 2. SPONSORSHIP This includes taking school related responsibilities like the provision of uniforms, stationery and school fees to the Orphans even to assessing the pupil’s performance in school. The Youths are sponsored to various vocational Courses to make them self- reliant. MANAGEMENT The project has a well defined management structure with The Executive Director at the apex who administers the day to day activities of the project . It also has a Board comprising of The Chairman, Hon Secretary and The Treasurer together with members who are charged with the joint responsibility of formulating policies and making decisions for the project. OBSTACLES The major obstacle is none other than that of finances. APPEAL Inadequate funding sources has been a big blow to the project. A passionate appeal is hereby made to well- wishers, charity organizations and the donor community to come forward in aid of the project. SUMMARY Attention is drawn towards the most profound items which includes: - (i) Daily basic needs (Food, Clothing, Blankets, Mosquito nets and Medication). (ii) Funds for Pupils School Fees, Stationery and Uniform. (iii) Funds for Training the Youths. (iv) Funds for establishing Small Enterprise Developments (SED) and Income Generating Activities (IGAs) for Widows. Any Contribution / Donation towards the same will highly be appreciated.
