 Over Mij |
Sinds 2000 youth work has become part of my live. As it is I can't imagine waking up and not doing something regarding youth and their wellbeing. It started for me as a supporting member of the National youth council. I joined the youth group of the sub- department of youth affairs afterwards. I need to say that this is the place where I develop my self.
I study economics on a Teachers collage in Suriname.
I joined the Youth Advocacy Movement (from 2000 - 2002) and learned more about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right and also about the linkages between HIV & AIDS. Sinds then I knew that I wanted to part in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Making especially young women aware of the risk I start working at the teenage mother project of the ministry of education and community development of my country. This project is to give teenage mother a second change. They get skills to make better choices in live. After working there for two years I joined the Stichting Mamio Names Project. This is the foundation for people living with HIV & AIDS my country. We support PLWHA and their families.
I love to join people which are trying to develop positive actions for youth to overcome boundaries. For the last two years I’ve been a youth officer for the Caricom Youth Ambassadors of my country. Together with some friends I initiate a youth group with the aim on youth development. The name is Umoja. Umoja focus on creating opportunities for youth to develop their potentials.
