About Me |
My name is Olaposi Abiola, Master degree programme in Information and Communication Technology for Development at the Institute of Development Policy and Management, University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
I have over 6 years of working experience as a Project Director of Global Resources Information Technology Network (GRITEN. Its focus areas include using the tools of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development (ICT4D) focusing on Africa especially in the areas of Education, Health, Cultural Preservation and Peace Building. The holistic initiative is build on six pillars, which are: Education, Health and Wellness, Ecology, Culture and Tradition, Governance and Economy
As the project Directors of GRITEN, I had many staffs working with me within the organisation. We partnered and work with different people and organisations both local and international. These responsibilities and challenges left me with no choice than to equip myself with various required skills, which basically surround the characteristics of good management, including leadership and communication skill and interpersonal relationship.
These skills also helped me in carrying out my duties especially with my staffs, board of director and development partners (funders). Additionally, I was able to develop emotional intelligent skills useful to manage my colleagues and enable me to interact in official social gatherings. I studied computer science and engineering in my undergraduate and I was able to apply this knowledge in various ICT business processes and activities in the organisation. I am well networked with professional bodies, NGOs and consultancies. I have full understanding of responsibilities of the directors and the board. I equally have my knowledge developed as an ICT expert through managerial roles in both pure ICT and customer service delivery such as typing and printing in MS word, use of email and internet and so on.
During my undergraduate, I founded Ibadan Linux Users Group (ILUG) consisting students of Polytechnics and Universities in Nigeria, the group seeks to focus on developing programs to train students at the higher institutions to promote Open Source Technologies in educational capacity building programs. This still continues growing.
Among many of the project I led was HIV/AIDS Music Awareness Programme – which provides care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS and children orphaned by AIDS through musical album. I also co- design and implement Open Digital Village (ODiV) – a community focused development initiatives, driven by a combination of Open Source, Open Hardware and Wireless Technologies and geared to promoting community oriented sustainable development.
I have contributed and participated in many local and international trainings, conferences and seminars. I served as abstract review committee to XVII and XVI International AIDS conference held in Mexico on 3-8 August 2008 and in Toronto, August 13 – 18 2006 respectively.
