About Me

Thomas Nyambane started working in the Disaster Risk Management environment as an intern with the Disaster, Post-conflict and Safety Section of UN-Habitat immediately he completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi in 1999. He stayed in UN-Habitat for one year before joining the Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University in England (Cranfield Disaster Management Centre) for his masters’ degree in Disaster Management. On graduation from CDMC, Thomas returned to Kenya and joined the Kenya Red Cross Society in 2001/2002 where he served as a Disaster Preparedness and Relief Officer. He coordinated relief operations in emergency programmes run by the Kenya Red Cross Society in conjunction with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He again joined UN-Habitat for a short term consultancy for one month before joining the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office for Kenya where he served as a Programme Officer on Disaster / Emergency related issues being coordinated by the UN Residence Coordinator Office. He also served as the UNDP-Kenya Country Office focal point person on Disaster Risk Reduction issues with other development partners. Thomas has joined UNDP BCPR as the ‘Support Manager’ to the Regional Disaster Risk Advisor for Africa since July 2004.

Thomas is 30 years old, single and an Adventist Christian. He likes traveling and discovering new places. He also likes mountaineering, jokes and helping the needy whenever he has the capability.
