About me
I am a Christian US National born to a Hindu Brahmin father and a British Jewish mother. I was born in New London, Connecticut, USA when my dad was working at Procter and Gamble after his return from a two year tour of duty as an army helicopter pilot in Vietnam.
When I reached the age of three we moved to Bombay, India and then moved to New Delhi in a year or so where my mom got transferred back to British Airways. I started my schooling at Mount Saint Mary's School (MSM). Due to the fact that MSM was a Catholic school run by Brothers of the Patrician Order I was exposed to Christianity very early on and chose to be baptised in the sixth grade. MSM was an excellent school to develop leadership skills and I led and participated in almost all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities offered to us like the Debate Team, Quiz Team, Music, Dramatics and Charades. I also won an award in the National Essay Writing Contest for kids and the National Junior Painting Contest and was a long time volunteer teacher for the National Literacy Mission.
After graduating high school I was accepted at Rochester Institute of Technology in Upstate New York where I studied for my BS in Packaging Science and completed it within two years. During this period I worked at RIT's Packaging Science Computer Lab, tutored English at National Technical Institute for the Deaf, volunteered as an interpreter and note taker for the hearing impaired, taught AutoCAD 10 as a TA and worked at Burger King. During the summers I also worked through Manpower Temp Agency at various industrial jobs making nuts and bolts, assembling boxes and designing CAD graphics on a MAC using MacDraw ...
After finishing RIT I took up a challenge offered to me by Rob, my best friend at college, to apply for a telemarketing position at a local marketing company. I was accepted immediately and put hard to work selling AntiVirus Solutions to high level IT management for Central Point Software. After excelling at this I was reassigned to a new project they had selling/supporting Alpha based PCS provided by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) to their developer community.
I then joined DEC in Chicago as Telemarketing Manager for their Alpha NT marketing group. I also worked in NT Marketing at other DEC facilities over the next 10 years including Seattle, Palo Alto, Atlanta, Nashua, Merrimack, Maynard, Marlboro and Littleton. My last position with DEC was Internet Marketing Manager where I launched DEC's NT, PC and Microsoft Alliance sites and was a co-founder of DEC's Web Council where we set standards for branding, content management, selling and outsourcing. I also served as a "Technology Evangelist" for DEC where I traveled all over the US visiting key partners and promoting the use of DEC technology in their businesses.
Just before Compaq purchased Digital I quit and started my own company Webmasters International to focus on web design. I then sold the company and moved to NYC where I worked in Pre-Sales (Sales Engineering) for Manchester Equipment where I designed and installed networks for customers like NYSE, CBS, BMG, American Express, Ann Taylor, NY Yankees, NY Rangers, and many other high-profile clients. After MEC I started my own company again Diffinitive International to return to my love of Internet-based infrastructure design. I have designed and hosted sites for many NY based non-profits and for-profit companies.
I moved to Pasadena, CA in 2001 where I met the love of my life Rhona (also a member here) who apart from marrying me re-introduced me to the non-profit world and Taking IT Global.
My current project is a Q&A site (Questions and Answers) Answerway , which I am planning to make a non-profit CA company in early 2003.
An update .. I am now also the CTO at Ebabylon, Inc and have moved to Simi Valley, CA ... we are a e-commerce business specializing currently in aftermarkerket inkjet cartridges, laser toners and ribbons for all makes of printers.
