My passion for the youth lingers in origin from my experience of life as a young boy in the midst of a polygamous set up of family life. Born and brought up in a poor family, I have had the 'hands-on-experience' of what poverty can do in one's life. Ranging from the incapability to afford schooling, many times spending without necessary things in life, and worst of all, a dark future....that without the hope of one day living outside the bondage of poverty. I knew something had to be done in order to bring a change, without which life had to continue in a constant cycle ....... of unending lack! After Secondary Education( acquired in struggles!), I sought solutions to life's wanting questions in my own life. I realized one of the most commonly contributing factors to this 'unending cycle' is poverty......I mean because my parents are poor, I have to be poor. Worst of all is because I depend on them for a future. Ok!!......I discovered DEPENDENCY is the factor. I had to fight off this. My main ambition for all of my counterparts, both at my community level and out, lets fight dependency. My first objective generated a zeal to seek a strategy. I realized I had to run out of ignorance. I have trained ICTs, and I use this to reach out to many, voice out the concerns of the community and link with development allies, partners and activists. Some of the people I cherish in the development and nurturing of my vision are Mr. Kennedy Edwine Onyango – my co-worker, and Director of CISSO-EDTEC. Mr. Kennedy who is has also served as the Country Director – OneVillage Foundation, has nurtured me from the time I joined the world of Community Social Service as a Volunteer at CISSO, to the sponsored training in IT at her technical wing – EDTEC, and with his continued support today, I serve as a volunteer facilitator of learning in the same. Mr. Ken (as we always call Kennedy) realized the potential in my life on a first encounter with him at his office, and dedicated to help me nurture this reserved ability to valuable delivery. Through many on-site involvements in community development, workshops and seminars I have attended through CISSO and Mr. Ken’s connectivity, I have gained a great wealth of knowledge in this field and that of ICTs. Thanks a lot Mr. Ken. I realized even the rippest of visions cannot be achieved unless with clear strategies and tools geared towards achieving the said goals. For this reason, I with the support of a few friends who feel the same, initiated this project (NCDI http://ericknyabala.tripod.com/ncdi) to help mobilize resources at our disposal, in-kind support, sponsor support, and other resources availed unto us from whatever source, to harness community wealth, reduce the level of poverty, disease infection, dependency and ignorance. Together, with clarity of vision, determination to serve community....not to be served, and the will power, combined with continued support and mentorship by Mr. Ken and colleagues at CISSO, a step has been made, and I believe that together we can make the world a better place to be. I believe on equal inclusion of the youth and the old, women and girls in decision making especially on matters of community development. The youth can use their innovative skills, voices combined with the media and ICTs at our reach, to bring change in society. NCDI fosters a platform for youth ventures which are youth-unique in innovation, administration, implememntaton, evaluation and monitoring. We would like to call upon potential organizations, individuals and government practicioners to partner with us in research, establishment and implementation of best practices that foster sustainable development of community. We would wish to collaboration and partnership with any other community organizations in a bid to learn and replicate best practices they have, and attain support for our initiatives. Let's work together friend, coz the world needs us more than we need our lives ......"Our lives no longer belong to us alone; they belong to all those who need us desperately".
