I currently work for Dunbar Economical Development Corporation and facilitate two of their youth programs, Global and Local Community Action Leaders (GLOCAL- Youth) and the Citizen Building leadership Academy. G.L.O.C.A.L. is an organization composed of young activist between the ages of 15-19 residing in the Vernon/Central community of South Los Angeles. Our mission is to provide young scholars with an opportunity to learn about the current struggles of working class communities, particularly those who are working on changing current policies to improve their communities and lifestyles here at home and around the world. Youth build on tolerance through foreign travel, critical education analysis and personal experience. Creating change is an objective while promoting justice through organizing and carrying out events for the community. The Citizen Building Leadership Academy engages young people with hands-on projects and research utilizing the fundamentals of community organizing and planning. Youth take on leadership roles and are involved in the process of trouble shooting and asset development to improve the quality of life in the community of Watts. This program is a partnership with L.A. Bridges at Samuel L. Gompers Middle School, a program of Los Angeles Conservation Corps. I am hoping to meet a diverse group of young people that I may interact with and possibly work together to create change within ourselves, our communities, our youth and the future.
