About Me   About Me
Who would have thought at 39 I would be serving as President & Mayor’s Representative for the Minneapolis City Planning Commission? I certainly hadn’t planned on it, but I certainly wouldn’t give it up for the world. Being able to act as a steward for what I love is important to me. My vocation as a landscape architect with the internationally recognized firm of oslund.and.assoc., began with a trip to Japan with my current boss during grad school. While discussing the merits of Japanese bath houses, Tadao Ando, and the way the light and shadows create place as they move across a Zen garden, I was asked to intern. The rest is history. Nine years later, my choice of vocation is positively reinforced everyday with new challenges and experiences. Work has even brought me back to Japan and China – and even allowed the adventurous diner in me to “enjoy” a delicacy of boiled duck’s feet in Beijing.

Because cities are a critical piece of my personal ethos, it is extremely important that I am active in professional organizations and policy bodies, such as the City Planning Commission, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), that advocate for best practices in urban thinking.

I hold a BA degree in Advertising from Valparaiso University – so I can talk to just about anybody and maybe even convince them they should buy something they absolutely don’t need. To both temper and enhance that skill set, I pursued and conquered a MLA degree from the University of Minnesota’s College of Design. They seem to enjoy my company (or so they keep telling me) and will ask me back from time to time to participate in visiting design critiques. In 2005 I was honored with the H.W.S. Cleveland Award for Leadership Potential in Landscape Architecture by the local chapter of the ASLA. I have lectured and participated in panel discussions on urban planning and have curated programs for ULI. These discussions fostered the exploration of ideas from perspectives different than the lens of typical urban design. I live in a historic 1918 warehouse in downtown Minneapolis – which appropriately was originally a salted nut factory. Yes, I live in the “Nut House”. I am in awe of Tom Waits entire catalog, could eat sushi for days on end, and can mix a mean Manhattan. Want one, don’t you?
