In high school I was a keener, and while initially, I know, this might seem like a bad/nerdy thing, I like to think that it opened a lot of doors for me along the way. In grade 12, I travelled to Southeast asia with my high school basketball team and fell in love with traveling. Along the way we stopped in at an orphanage in Laos and got to hang out with the kids there for a few days. With incredible amounts of help from our coach our team began the "adopt an orphanage" project upon returning home. We raised over $15 000 in 4 months for the Luang Prabang children's orphanage and 2 years later, the project is still running strong. I returned the following year with my boyfriend and 2 other friends (who were also on the initial trip). It was amazing to see how so little effort (in the big picture) could make so big of a difference to those kids. It was an awesome experience! In life, I've often found that I'm happiest when I'm doing something to help someone other than myself. And I suppose that's the driving force behind why I've chosen to travel to Tanzania. From this trip, I'm hoping I can make a difference in somebody's life. I also think it will be an amazing opportunity for personal growth and in the long term, I hope to find direction towards a career in international development. So I guess that's me in a nutshell. I also like reading, and rock climbing (though I am not at all athletically inclined) and recently have taken to the ukulele. I'm not sure what else to say, but if you would like to know anything else about me, please feel free to drop me a line. (Ps. The picture is of me, Miss Lee (on of our guest house owners in Thailand), and my boyfriend, Pat)
