About Me |
I am passionate about international relations and have had numerous opportunities to develop my international and intercultural skills over the last 5 years. I studied in Perth, Australia as an exchange student for 6 months in 2000; I volunteered with CultureLink, an organisation in Toronto that assists new immigrants settle-in to life in the GTA; I worked for a relocation company in Toronto that assists corporate professionals with their international and domestic relocation needs; I successfully completed a Master’s degree in International Relations from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia in 2004; I worked in the International Office of Macquarie University as an liaison to international students and developed a “buddy program” for exchange students. Furthermore, I became a member of the Macquarie United National Society where I had the opportunity to attend the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference as a delegate member for Algeria and I joined the Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand. Through my own personal experiences, I have broadened my international perspectives and have become sensitive to issues related to the experience and challenge of living, working and studying abroad. I have sharpened my skills; and my opinions and perspectives have been challenged. I have become more aware of Canada’s immigration requirements and I have also had the opportunity to see the types of challenges new immigrants can face, such as the intricacies of having overseas qualifications accepted in Canada, the challenges of finding a job, language barriers and how to adjust to the cold Canadian winter.
I would consider myself a global citizen. I am thoroughly interested in all things international including cultures, language and travel. Furthermore, I love encouraging young people to take advantage of all the opportunities out there. Work and Study abroad! It's the best thing you can do. I became involved in international education, both as a student and from the university perspective and am interested in this field. I am also interested in entering the Canadian Foreign Service and representing Canadian interests abroad.
Recently I have just returned from Chile and am hoping to go back there in the next few months. I am interested in Latin American culture and Canada's relationship with Latin America. Furthemore, I am learning Spanish and very excited about this!
