 About Me |
Mark is focusing on indigenous people and the environment, and the effects of deforestation on them. With this in mind, he briefly started the Students For Penan Awareness Project, which conducted several workshops and was even involved in TakingItGlobal's DeforestAction project. Marky was picked as a youth activist to take part in the 5th World Youth Congress in Istanbul, where he learnt about those issues and met lots of like-minded people (yes, he loves to meet people).
Mark also has a huge interest for international relations. He has been a delegate to the People to People International Peace Camp in Jordan of 2009, representing Malaysia, which he loved oh so much; he's taken part in several MUN conferences including the Kuala Lumpur International Model United Nations, and is familiar with the structure and functions of UN bodies.
Mark has organised and managed a number of projects as well, usually involving awareness and fundraising; the "See The World Through Our Eyes" project obtained grants from the British Council via its Global Changemakers program to exhibit photos taken by Burmese refugee children in Kuala Lumpur, to raise more funds.
Mark is the coordinator of the Initiative For Peace activity in MUWCI and is interested in figuring out how theatre (forum theatre) can be used to solve conflicts.
Mark likes to go outdoors and climb/hike/cycle/run around. The further out, the better. He also stargazes.
