About Me

My name is Macumu Pierre, a proactive Burundian youth who has been working for social change since 2000. I am the Founder and Executive Director of the « Youth Action for Development – YAD », a not for profit youth organization working for the promotion of the population of Burundi, especially the marginalized youths due to, on the one side, bad management of the country since several years, on the other side, ethnic conflicts which contributed to the destruction of the economical and social environment of the state.

These people are not able to get involved into the development and economical activities of their community owing to the lack of satisfactory job and business skills. Y.A.D has been contributing towards the re-development and rebuilding of their communities, through volunteering services, for 4 years. I have great experiences in this field, especially the implementing and coordinating the Global Youth Service Day. Through this activity, I have had a ripple effect on the other youth leaders and thus contributed to making a difference in my country. I am expected to bring my contributions in this way :

1. Stimulate the Burundian people, especially the youth to get involved into the decision-making process so they can become economically and socially influent; by providing them with life skills, business skills, etc. ;
2. Create the culture of entrepreneurship and leadership among Burundian young people in order to support the creation of self-employment to secure their finacial independence ;
3. Promote the volunteering services among youths for a better world, especially to create meaningful social change in our community.
4. Etc.
