About Me   About Me
Joy is a Social Scientist and development worker with experience in HIV&AIDS Programme management, policy analysis and human rights work with critical focus on SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights) and youths for the last 7 years. I have turned my personal struggle into a new brand of activism and hope aimed at supporting communities affected by HIV&AIDS especially women, children and the youth. My greatest passion is to fight for the rights of AIDS widows and orphans, increase access to treatment for those infected and prevention of those who are not yet infected and not forgetting the advocacy of the Sexual reproductive health rights of the youths.

My direct involvement in service delivery, policy and advocacy work, research, training, building partnerships and programme management has contributed tremendously to raising awareness on the rights of women, youths and HIV.

Over the last 7 years I have engaged teachers and learners (both youth in and out of school) in dialogue around Sex and Sexuality, in two districts in Kenya (Kajiado and Meru South Districts), in 11 Primary schools, and the surrounding communities. Joining the International volunteering community will be one of the ways for reaching out to the poorest of the poor, and to impact on secure livelihoods, as well as advocate for rights of the less fortunate. This will be an intervention for the international development issues and MDGs attainment, as well as a chance contribute to HIV/AIDS initiatives during the service.
KEY SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Monitoring and Evaluation
o I was involved in Monitoring and Evaluation of 34 CSOs; country wide, under Global Fund 2; and this provided hands on experience in report writing and proposal development. I have experience in implementing community Health Information Systems being gained from partnering with organizations like World Vision and AMREF and other NGOs dealing with vulnerable groups.
o I participated in USAID – FANTA Project mapping of Promising Practices In Implementation of Nutrition Care & Support programs for PLWHAs in Kenya.
o I am also capable of developing Program log frames, and evaluation of progress and impact against the input and output indicators.

• Community Mobilization/ Working with Community Groups
o I have good experience in Community based research, and participatory implementation of programs; with excellent data collection, management, and interpretation skills. I.e. to coordinate and manage HIV/AIDS and nutrition programs and can participate in the development of disaster preparedness systems. I have also worked with different community groups during a participatory evaluation of Tot ADP(Marakwet District)- World Vision, in 2006.
o Currently, I am working with Extreme Sports, a professional non profit organization dealing with community development, HIV&AIDS, Entrepreneurship and development Issues. I am the consultant Programs Manager. Management and logistical planning for the Super 8 soccer tournament falls under my docket. Our tournament involves an average of 80 clubs/ soccer teams, each composed of about 25 or more members. We directly involve them in capacity building on social and business entrepreneurship skills, and monitor their businesses/ IGAs. This has given me the experience required to manage diverse communities and to monitor and record all their activities.
• Training/ Capacity Building/ HIV&AIDS
o I have extensive experience in training, gained from involvement in Facilitation in Workshops on HIV&AIDS, sex and sexuality, and sex communication for Learners

Im My Part time, I am work at an NGO (Wapodavi- Kenya)
our mission is to fight domestic violence in police officers homes and encourage settled stable families of police officers.
Target group:
The women in the lives of police officers. the group includes wives, fiances, girl friends, mistresses, mothers, sisters and daughters of police officers.
vulnerability/ justification:
where domestic violence is involved, the victims face greater risk of injury and death. the men in their lives are armed and feared. not many people would risk assisting a police officers wife even if they are capable. the women have severally been threatened and been shot in some instances.there is also the problem of intimidation. most of their cases reported in the local police stations where their men are stationed go ignored.

All issues with standing, I am of the opinion that everyone has a right to self determination and conscience, which should be duly protected by the state, including the right to practice a culture and various freedoms. The rights to health, and access to HIV treatment can best be realized if stakeholders in the health service delivery understood human rights, in regards to constitutional provisions including access to HIV treatment services without prejudice and or discrimination. And that is my motivation for working in the HIV&AIDS related issues.
