He obtained his PhD at the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the University of Trento, Italy, examining the semantic interoperability between geographic web services. He has contributed to, and published in various international journals, conferences and workshops in the fields of Spatial Data Infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence, and Information Systems. Lorenzino is now working at the JRC (Joint Research Center, European Commission) as a post-doc researcher. Working in the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) unit, he undertakes research to support the development of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and European Spatial Data Infrastructure foreseen by the INSPIRE directive, focusing on the interoperability of spatial data and services at the global and European level. Specialties include development of global, international and local Spatial Data Infrastructures, semantic interoperability among heterogeneous geographic services and datasets, GIS management, P2P architectures for emergency response and semantic web issues.
